I am training for my first triathlon — The Big Kahuna Half-Ironman in Santa Cruz, CA.

&lt;p&gt;When I first started training for a marathon two years ago, I could barely get my feet to align properly to each other; and the feet hurt after a mile of running. Took me about a month to get into a basic running rhythm. I’m hoping it will be the same with swimming.&lt;/p&gt;

Met some wonderful new people :-)&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Step 1: Lay on one side (in the water, of course) and paddle feet to move forward, rotating your head in and out of the water, to breathe.&lt;/p&gt;
